Nine Mile Run Watershed Association

The Nine Mile Run Watershed Association is commited to the restoration and protection of the small urban watershed on the East End of Pittsburgh. Their activities include citizen engagement, demonstration projects, and advocacy – and are perhaps best known for their efforts regarding the proliferation of rain barrels throughout the city.

Being East Enders, as well as big fans of environmental restoration, Bearded approached Nine Mile Run to aid them in producing their annual report. Our goal was to show current donors that they were contributing to the natural beauty and health of the area through their donations. We felt this was best aided by photography of the area that the NMRWA was in the process of restoring.

Bearded designed the NMRWA's 2008 annual report, including shooting the cover photograph in a NMRWA-protected area of Frick Park. The report was produced on a tiny budget, utilizing a single piece of folded paper, and two ink colors. Despite budget constraints, the report was printed on 100% post-consumer recycled paper, whose production was offset with wind power energy credits.
